The Dark Side!

As a first time Parliamentary Candidate I have been both overjoyed to receive so much support for my campaign but also surprised by the darker side of Politics.

Last week the Financial Times and the Guardian reported on the proposed visit of Young US Republicans to Windsor Conservatives during the General Election campaign. I am unclear what they will do here.

Meanwhile LibDems have taken the step of actually distributing leaflets about me that are untrue! They claim I am originally from London and that I do not want to be the Windsor MP! Wow, is it really allowed to make things up about opposition candidates? No I am not from London, I have lived in the same house for 26 years, in Holyport (not Bray as they claim) 5 miles from Windsor town centre and like lots of other people locally I have commuted to work into London, Slough and High Wycombe.

My career is something I am proud of, having always worked full time; in nursing, social work, probation, homeless charity management, community regeneration and commissioning health and social care services. Not bad for someone who left school and Scotland at 16 and did her law degree at night school!

I am a woman who very much wants to be your MP; to represent you and to fight for your interests. We need more ordinary, hard working people as MPs in this country to take our experience of everyday life into Westminster.

Don't be fooled on Heathrow Airport Expansion

The campaign against Heathrow Expansion is not what it seems. Both the Conservative and LibDem approach has been to pay ‘lipservice’ to the anti Heathrow expansion campaign. However you should know that it was they who set the parameters of the flawed Davies Commission 3 years ago. The Commission is ONLY looking at the economic impact of airport expansion. It pays little attantion to the social, environmental or the public health impact.

The Davies Airports Commission will report in June 2015: A Labour Government will not be pressured into any hasty decisions, no matter what Davies reports. First and foremost there will be public consultation on the outcome and only when that is complete will a Labour Government consider the options fully to make a decision.

If elected as you MP I will make sure that the public consultation is comprehensive and appropriate. Residents living close to any further proposed airport expansion deserve to be able to both inform and strongly influence the Government decision in a consultation process designed to meet the needs of residents.

Noise pollution has been at the forefront of resident’s concerns about expansion and rightly so: Sleep disruption is known to be linked to heart disease, stress and depression. Fewer people mention air pollution, perhaps because it is largely invisible. However we live in the Bermuda triangle of air pollution from aircraft, from slow moving traffic on the M4. A4 and M25 and also the Colnbrook incinerator which burns rubbish from all over London and the South East. There is little air quality testing, particularly in Windsor constituency.

The 70,000 new homes needed in the area for the incoming workers and the resultant pressure on GP surgeries, schools, hospitals, water treatment, the flood plain etc is not acceptable when local children already cannot get school places and people queue for GP and hospital appointments.

The ConDems and RBWM have pulled the wool over the eyes of local people with their posturing on Heathrow expansion, whereas I will open their eyes to the need for strong and effective consultation and campaigning.
