38 incidents of child sexual exploitation in Windsor and Maidenhead in just over a year is clear evidence that it is a serious issue locally and we should be supporting Thames Valley Police in their drive to tackle this revolting crime.
One of the issues for both Police and Council is shortage of staff to work on the prevention and prosecution of this crime and the protection of the young people being abused. The tried and tested method of getting a job done in such difficult circumstances is to combine forces and work in partnership across agencies and across territories.
There is already a superb opportunity open to RBWM leadership to support TVP in this difficult work but so far they have failed to take up the challenge. A Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) has been set up in Slough and RBWM have been invited to join the project; this is a partnership between Police, Council and Charities that will work to prevent, protect and prosecute.
One has to wonder why RBWM would turn down an opportunity to protect our young people from the devious perverts who prey on them: Might it be simply that the leadership is too ‘high and mighty’ that they will not work with a Labour Council? I have checked with Slough and the offer remains on the table. Come on Mr Burbage, get off your high horse and get on with protecting our kids!
