RBWM Tory Leadership have once again claimed Council Tax reduction as a sign of efficient management; this would be laughable if it were not so tragic: There is nothing clever about running down services to the point that they fail; failure always includes an enormous human cost for the vulnerable and a hidden financial liability for tax payers.
RBWM own internal review graded them as “INADEQUATE’ in managing Children’s Services. A Council that has quite clearly put our children at risk as evidenced by this review into the sad and tragic death of a local toddler. The review identified that the problems had developed over a period of several years which indicates to me that problems were not tackled by this leadership.
In December the Government gave RBWM a £2.5 million raise in funding and they did something similar for other wealthy Tory councils like Richmond. Where did they get the money from for hand outs at this time of need? The Bedroom Tax perhaps? The same Bedroom tax that hurts 210 local households, many of them vulnerable people with disabilities? The same tax that Mr Afriyie and Mrs May MPs voted in favour of (theyworkforyou.com)?
Last year RBWM cut Council Tax for the 5th year running by 37p a week for list D properties and the Government urged them to do the same again this spring. Far better that they use this gift from Government to bring Adult and Children’s services up to standard to protect the vulnerable.
