I was warning about changes to the NHS in 2011 and I am still warning in 2021 This is just a brief snapshot from 2014. My decision to put myself forward for Parliament in 2014 was based on the disturbing recognition that our public services needed protecting from the Tories, UKIP and even the LibDems. My most urgent concern at that time was the NHS and all 3 other parties had shown that they wanted a US style healthcare system.
The breakup of our NHS and the proposed sell off to American ‘healthcare’ companies is a truly terrifying prospect. The Tories and LibDems have already ended the principal of 'universal healthcare free at the point of need' (in the 2012 Health & Social Care Act) and now they want to allow private health companies to suck the life out of our tax funded service. The US healthcare system (the model they want to impose on us) is an expensive failure for it's patients but it makes enormous profits for healthcare companies. There is no value to us, the patients, in these changes, they mean that we will pay ever increasing amounts to feed the profits of the companies. Only the very wealthy with shares in these companies will benefit.
When I am speaking to people I hear little support for the radical NHS privatisation and breakup that we are going through now. If you want to find out how your MP votes on this or other issues use this website (www.theyworkforyou.com).
Across the health professions, many doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiologists etc agree with me. Recently the UK NHS was found to be the best health service in the World: Why let the Conservative government trash it?
If elected as MP I would vote to reverse the Health and Social Care Act and fight to ensure a safe future for a publicly funded, publicly provided NHS.
